Using Google Scholar

Access to University Libraries resources may be blocked from your worksite. For example, Horry County School firewalls block access to University Libraries' resources due to HCS security precautions. We recommend starting research from the library's database subscriptions first, but if you cannot access library resources, Google Scholar may be a helpful supplement to identifying sources that you can access later from a non-work internet connection.

The video below shows how to connect your computer to Google Scholar and the Library's collection, and gives some advice on searching in Google Scholar.

Start from the Google Scholar page at http://scholar.google.com and follow the steps in the video.

Text Directions:

When searching Google Scholar, you now have the option to link to the library’s online journal content.  If you are on campus, Google Scholar will automatically link up to University Libraries' online journal collection. If researching from home, follow these easy steps to get set up:

  1. Go to scholar.google.com
  2. Click on the settings wheel in the upper right corner
  3. On the left side of the screen, click “Library links”
  4. Search for “Coastal Carolina University Libraries”
  5. Check the box and press save

Now when you search for articles in Google Scholar, a “Find @ CCU” link will
appear, which will take you to a new page with options on how to access the article for free from the library.
