Evaluating OA Journals

While open access journals can be a good way to expand your visibility, some of these journals are predatory. Refer to the following resources to locate quality, open access journals.

If you still have concerns about the quality of a specific journal, consider the following:

  • Go to the journal home page. Do you recognize the publisher? (Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, etc.)
  • Look into the parent publisher.
  • Check WorldCat. Do any libraries own this publication?
  • Ask your colleagues about the journal.
  • Email the journal’s editors.
