Thompson Library, which had its grand opening in the summer of 2024, is a 64,000 square foot facility that combines upgraded services, interactive technologies, and student support services. The first floor will feature a new Starbucks, a large Makerspace, a VR and Data Visualization lab, study spaces, research assistance, and assistance for checking out items. The second floor will house a number of units geared to student success, including Student Computing Services, the Writing Center, and Athletic Tutoring. All library faculty and staff will be located in Thompson Library during the renovation of Kimbel Library.
Completed in 1977 Kimbel Library is the oldest library facility on the Coastal Carolina University campus. Originally all library services operated from this location. This building is currently undergoing a major renovation and is expected to open in the fall of 2025. The newly reimagined facility will feature an all new Archives & Special Collections unit, the Horry County Archives Center, the library's curriculum collection, study rooms, quiet and silent study spaces, and an open dual study space and event area.
Developed as an addition to Kimbel Library in 2012 the Bryan Information Commons has 18000 square feet of student use space. The Information Commons includes study rooms, presentation spaces, and a computer/study area. Assistance is available at the Peter C. Bolton Help Desk. Small electronic items such as phone and computer chargers are available for checkout. Currently course reserve items are also located at the Help Desk.
