How to Cite Resources

This guide will help you with MLA, APA, CBE/CSE, Chicago/Turabian, ASA, and ASPA style citations.

Who Uses APA style?

APA (American Psychological Association) style is most often used by students (and scholars) in the Social Sciences, especially Psychology, and by Education and Business researchers. If you aren't sure which citation style to use, be sure to ask your professor which style they prefer for assignments in their class.

Citing Data in APA

Datasets are cited similarly to articles. Use the Purdue Owl site to find the format and an example.

Some notes about citing data:

  • Use a "retrieved on" date only if the data set is changed
  • If the data is published, use that for year of publication
  • If the data is unpublished, use the year(s) of collection
  • Include the version number in parentheses after the title, if there is one
