Preserving data from research projects is an important part of the data management lifecycle. University Libraries provides backup of data and documentation throughout the research project using CCU Digital Commons, Coastal’s institutional repository. Researchers can upload data securely on the Web, provide collaborators access to data during the project, and enable editing of data as needed. Data versioning is also supported.
Once the research project is complete, researchers can publish data to the institutional repository. Data published to the repository is automatically preserved.
Preservation of data is accomplished in a secure, cloud-based, redundant storage system. Preservation maintenance routines are performed to identify data fixity issues and ensure data integrity. Format migration checks are scheduled as well.
