About Scholarly Communication

Scholarly communication is defined by the Association of College & Research Libraries as "the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use. The system includes both formal means of communication, such as publication in peer-reviewed journals, and informal channels, such as electronic listservs."

Scholarly Communications cycle - research, authoring, peer review, publication, discovery & dissemination

Participants in the scholarly communication lifecycle include authors, researchers, funders, peer reviewers, publishers, and libraries. As you progress through this scholarly communications lifecycle, University Libraries can help you to:

  • locate the best journal for your manuscript
  • avoid questionable or predatory publications
  • understand copyright, fair use, and library database licensing restrictions
  • understand your rights as an author and negotiate publishing contracts
  • create and manage your online academic profile
  • publish your paper to the CCU Digital Commons
  • understand the impact of your publications
