UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

Graduate Student Library Orientation

An introduction to library services and resources targeted toward graduate students.

Library Databases

The library subscribes to more than 300 databases and journal packages containing:

  • Both discipline-specific and more general collections
  • Full citations
  • Full text materials, primarily journal articles

The Databases A-Z page removes some of the guesswork of which databases are recommended for which research areas by organizing databases by both subject and title. Save valuable research time by using the databases your faculty use to locate sources and research.

To locate the suggested databases for your discipline:

  1. On the library homepage, click Databases A-Z
  2. Choose Browse All Databases
  3. Select the Subject that most closely corresponds to your field of study from the dropdown

For example, those enrolled in the Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies program will likely choose Marine Science from the subject list, while those in the Liberal Studies program should consider the discipline(s) most closely related to the research topic and begin there.

  1. Scan through the curated list of suggested databases
  2. Identify those that match most closely with your interests
  3. Start searching within those collections
  4. Click on any database's title link for instant access to these resources
  5. Note: Off-campus access requires authentication using your CCU username and password

Journals A-Z

Journals A-Z lists all the journals (both print and electronic) that Kimbel Library subscribes to. Use Journal Finder to:

  • Locate specific journals to browse or search
  • Find a specific article with a known citation by looking up the journal

Watch the following video or read the transcript to learn how to use Journal Finder to locate journals for your research.

Research Guides

Librarians partner with faculty to create research guides to assist researchers. These guides introduce resources and tools appropriate for individual assignments, for discipline-specific research and for research support topics such as citation. Some of our top guides for graduate studies and resources are linked below.
