The Makerspace has Einscan SE and Matter and Form V2 3-D scanners.
3D scanners are tools that allow users to create 3D models of real-world objects. By using infrared or visible light, they are able to "look" at objects that are placed in front of their sensors to determine the exact shape of the object. After scanning, objects can be saved as files which can then be used for things such as 3D printing or game design.
In the Makerspace we have two different 3D scanners: The Matter and Form, and the Einscan Shining 3D.
Matter and Form
The Matter and Form is a smaller and more compact scanner that uses infrared light to create data points that are plotted in a 3D environment. It has a smaller bed and smaller possible height than the Shining 3D.
Shining 3D
The Shining 3D scanner uses visible light to scan objects as opposed to infrared, and can scan larger objects than the Matter and Form. The rotating plate can also be removed from the Shining 3D to allow for taller objects to be scanned. When done this way, the object must be manually turned.
